Pros
  • The FiberFlex face is grippy

I’ve clocked in over 100 hours with the Selkirk S2 Amped paddle, and let me tell you, it’s a workhorse. Even with my wild swinging and occasional clumsy ground strikes, it’s held up like a champ. I’ve browsed through Amazon reviews and noticed a lot of mentions about how the paddle is super forgiving and has helped cover up weak spots in a player’s game. I’m totally on board with that sentiment. If you’re on the fence about spending $150 on a paddle, I’d say you’re unlikely to find a better paddle to splurge on.

The Selkirk S2 Amped Pickleball Paddle performance (say that three times fast😉) owes a lot to its large sweet spot, which adds both performance and control. I also appreciated the paddle’s lightweight design. It allowed me to play an entire 2 hour session without experiencing fatigue in my forearm which has been a problem during long days on the court. Overall, if the price tag doesn’t offend you, I can’t think of a single type of player to whom I wouldn’t recommend the paddle. It excels in all areas and makes no visible compromises.

I also want to emphasize the Selkirk S2 Amped Pickleball Paddle’s durability, it’s summer and I’ve been playing on converted asphalt tennis courts for the double bonus of training and breathing in the summer air and sunshine. The paddle held up well even after frequent use on the rough tennis surface. We’ve all had the clumsy ground strike from time to time, but outside — and especially if you play indoors on basketball courts or similar — I expect you’ll get years of use out of the paddle. This paddle just might score you 10,000 points in its lifetime.

Our likes and dislikes

Likes

  • A forgiving do-it-all weapon
  • Durability
  • Available in a range of colors and styles

Dislikes

  • Price point – not the most expensive paddle on the market, still a pretty penny.
  • If power is the only element of your game you’re looking to improve, you can find a paddle with a more dedicated power focus.

Overall, the Selkirk S2 Amped Pickleball Paddle is a solid everyday paddle approaching the north end of the paddle price points. If the price tag doesn’t make you blink, I recommend you check out our review of the Amped’s big brother paddle, the Invikta by Selkirk. In any event, the performance, design, and durability make the Amped a recommended option for anyone looking for a high-quality pickleball paddle. Selkirk’s value is legendary as one of the top brands on the market and this paddle only bolsters the reputation. See our discussion of the entire Selkirk line.

As a bonus, it’s available in several color choices, which will help you match your paddle to your favorite workout shirt and shoes for the professional look. Look good, feel good.

I think our friends do a good job in this video showing the paddle in action and explaining its function and benefits.
